Cultural Competence

Cultural competence is the attainment of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable administrators and practitioners within systems of care to provide for diverse populations.
Cultural competence includes an understanding of a culture's language, beliefs, norms, and values that may have a significant impact on the well-being of individuals within that culture. Cultural competence is a critical component of SAMHSA grant programs.
